A popular nightclub in India called Enigma, located in Hotel Marriot, stamps each of its customer’s hands with the phone number of the local cab company. This is the most effective ad idea I heard about recently; it doesn’t only advertise the cab company but it also saves lives by possibly lowering the DUI cases. The idea has been so effective that it is now taken up by other clubs and also the Mumbai police. This is a medium that no one entering the club can avoid; and its success comes from being at the right place at the right time. It proves how important location is for advertising or any media for that matter. It reaches its target audience, and simply delivers its message. It also solves a problem for people to look for a cab after leaving the club. Rather than putting posters or handing out flyers that many people easily ignore, the ad is personalized by stamping it on each customer’s hand. It is the most simple and effective ad idea that is actually useful for the customers.

Wow, this is a very effective advertisement. It serves several purposes, show that the person has paid to enter the club, a reminder to not get to drunk and the convenience of a taxi phone number. It might be useful to advertise in other events such as concerts, games or entertainment events where the process of getting a bracelet or getting stamped might be a new option to advertise. It introduces a new way of advertising. We all become walking advertisements. It's the same thing with clothes, all the brands on the shirts or jackets we were, we advertise those companies by showing their logos on ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you wrote a post like this since I was not aware of an ad like this before. I totally agree with it's effectiveness since human body is one of the most seen media tools both by ownself and others. Even though I realy liked the idea, there might be people who would not want to have a stamp on them and be the advertisement themselves. This ad campaign can create opponents even though nobody would be an opponent of a cab company normally since it does not harm anyone. However I really liked the idea and take the risk they took if I had a company.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a great way to sell a cab ride! I would have never thought of that one. It is flawless in every way except for maybe an annoyance in washing off the ink once you've actually used the number and taken the cab. This seems like a social improvement to me as it may decrease a great deal of misfortune that may have occurred otherwise if the people drove instead.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting and probably very effective way of advertising this local cab company and a way to advertise the idea of avoiding drinking and driving. The hotel is promoting good welfare for its customers, the environment, and society.
ReplyDeleteGreat find, Eda! Advertising are so invasive in our lives that consumers become immune to them. Yet, successful advertising find non-conventional, non-intrusive, or even subliminal ways to get into our consciousness.
ReplyDeleteOne wonders when every inch of our social space will be overtaken by ads?
